Emily Parr is an inspirational artist and teacher based in Teignmouth, Devon. Her work is primarily ceramic art, from domestic use to sculpture. We built her a brand new E-commerce website to sell her work, and designed a logo, business stationery and social profiles. We provided comprehensive documentation and training to help her run a fully-fledged online store.
Graphic Design / Branding
We designed a simple, friendly, classy, timeless logo which is minimal and uses a colour taken from Emily’s work. We used this colour with others from her work to develop a scheme for the website. The typography on the site was chosen to be readable, calm and approachable.
We used the same aesthetic to design a business card and stationery, the layouts inspired by the Fibonacci ‘Golden Ratio’.
The online shop is powered by WooCommerce and has different product categories which are searchable, featured products, vouchers and discounts, different delivery options, different payment gateways, automatic emails, social sharing, product reviews and more.
We designed a very sparse minimalist website, so that the main focus would be Emily’s work. We wanted a clear, useable and beautiful site to maximise conversions. The site features several pages about Emily and showcasing her portfolio, an online shop with dozens of products for sale, an animated slider, a blog / news feed, social integration and contact form.
SEO – Search Engine Optimisation
The new website incorporated many SEO features, all of which are included as standard in all our websites. OG tags and twitter cards, which ensured that any content shared from the site looks great on social media. Meta tags, alt text, accessibility, site maps, analytics etc.
This ensured that the website was at the top of the organic search listings for the main keywords on Google, and on the first page for more competitive search terms.
The SEO will improve over time as the blog content increases and the social accounts grow in content and engagement.
We used WordPress and WooCommerce to power the site as this was the best solution to allow Emily to update her content at will, and to incorporate all the powerful features. We implemented security, backups, site monitoring, a contact form, cacheing and page speed optimisation.
We continue to look after the site, providing technical support and performing updates.
